Portland, Oregon - NOC Tech College Intern position |
|
Network Operations Center Internships are free,
unpaid training opportunities where you will
learn about network monitoring by working with our experienced NOC Techs.
You will learn how to use professional grade monitoring tools to
remotely manage production servers and network infrastructure gear. You
will also learn how Systems Administrators employ "best practices" to keep their environments running at
peak efficiency. There is no future paid employment guarantee, implied or otherwise. However,
Interns who have successfully completed our program are given strong
preference for paid positions as they become available. Interns work their
own hours (we operate 7x24x365). However, we ask for at least a 6 hour
commitment per week in 3 hour minimum shifts. It takes about 120 hours to
complete our Intern program although the more qualified candidates may
require less time. It is our desire that Interns will eventually come
on as paid Vigilance Monitoring Employees.
To qualify, you should be a recent graduate of a 2 year Technical program or
well along on your BS studies. A CCNA and MCSE or equivalent knowledge is
required as is at least some hands on UNIX administration knowledge.

These are part time, entry level, earn while you learn positions.
All full time senior NOC Techs are
promoted from within. Requires associate degree or higher formal training in
networking principles and an MSCE, CCNA or equivalent knowledge. Must be
solidly grounded in TCP/IP, packet routing/switching, DNS, LAN/WAN and basic
client/server communication theory. Knowledge of UNIX is very helpful.
We
do not require (or even want) Candidates who have a lot of work
experience. Candidates who lack these minimum qualifications are
invited to investigate our Intern program.
We are
looking for high energy, eager beavers who are serious about their career
development after graduating from a technical school. We'd also like to hear
from mature workers who have left a career doing something non-technical to
go back to school to learn computer networking. We are looking for
people who are motivated by career advancement and aren't just looking for a
pay check. We're not looking for hired help. We are looking for
people to help us build an industry leading company. In exchange,
we'll teach you how to employ Network Engineering and Systems Administration
"best practices" in a high availability, hardened, production
environment. You'll also get to work with cutting edge monitoring
tools and advanced remote management techniques. Essentially, we take
new college graduates and turn them into skilled, experienced Systems
Administrators.
Strong attention to
detail, maturity and ability to follow procedures while being resourceful when the
unexpected occurs is required. NOC Techs monitor customer equipment
verifying, troubleshooting, correcting and/or escalating problems that are
detected. Job-specific training is provided on an on-going basis.
This

It also
provides great hands-on Systems Administration experience, a steep learning curve and the opportunity for
